“Sylvan Sunrise” depicts one of the most popular images from the Sylvan Lake area— the view of the dam itself. Here, the rocks face southeast, which allows them to catch the first light of day with a spectacular glow. Jon also chose this time of day because of the stillness. “First thing in the morning, there’s no wind on the water,” he says. “It was just like glass. Most of the day, the water is ruffled up by the breeze.”
