Eleazar Evangelista Original Oils
Growing up in South Dakota, Eleazar Evangelista developed a deep appreciation for the region’s rugged landscapes, wildlife, and shifting prairie light. Inspired by the scenery of the Black Hills and the American West, she pursued formal studies in drawing and painting at The Atelier of Minneapolis and The Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. Working primarily in oil paint, Evangelista combines classical technique with direct observation to create paintings that capture the atmosphere, movement, and natural beauty of the places that shaped her upbringing. Her work often reflects a connection to western landscapes, wildlife, and the tradition of plein air painting.
Evangelista’s work has been featured in exhibitions and plein air events throughout the region, including residencies at Sylvan Lake Lodge and shows at the Center for Western Studies. She has received recognition through awards such as Best of Show and Best Quick Draw at the Black Hills Plein Air Paint Out and was named 605 Magazine’s Best South Dakota Inspired Artist in 2025. Through her paintings, Evangelista hopes to share the beauty, light, and lasting character of the American West.
