REX BRIGGS

Rex was raised in Los Angeles until college, but felt reborn when he moved to Rapid City where he fell in love with the people, the lifestyle, and being surrounded by nature in South Dakota for the last 50 years. He spent 42 years as a psychotherapist and author. He has been turning bowls for 40 years and ran a small shop building custom furniture and cabinets as a hobby to maintain his sanity. He loved to find woods from all over the world with character-- worm holes, spalting lines, inclusions and burls and repurposes the original tree into a natural work of art. The idiosyncratic character differences in wood remind him of his career in working with people with different character traits, making the final pieces and people more interesting and relatable.
