The Black Hills has always been a constant in Randi’s life. Raised in a military family, she grew up in a nomadic lifestyle, yet the Black Hills remained a familiar presence at every stage of her journey. Randi has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Her travels around the world exposed her to history and art from an early age, sparking her lifelong passion for drawing and painting. She is a graduate of Augustana University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and further refined her craft. Randi’s creative process is deeply influenced by her travels, and she is dedicated to the practice of plein air painting, capturing the world as she experiences it. Her preferred mediums include watercolor, ink, gouache, and acrylic. In addition to her paintings and illustration work, Randi is committed to the traditional art of Rosemaling, Norwegian folk painting, as a way of preserving and celebrating her heritage.
-Norwegian Rosemaling-
Rosemaling is the traditional folk painting of Norway. It first became popular in the 1700-1800s, displaying the classic scrolls and floral designs, it became a way for Norwegians to bring beauty and expression into their daily lives. Each painting is the reflection of countless years of culture and history. Randi Inez Eggum first started to learn the craft with her local Sons of Norway and later attended the Vesterheim Folk Art School. In celebration of her heritage, she is always trying to bring these traditions and painting practices into the 21st century.
