One of the best parts of mountain life is a view from a perch. “Enduring Spirits” is a view from the road going up to Sylvan Lake. The inspirational photo was taken from the switchbacks below the single tunnel on that road. Jon stopped safely at a pull-out there, and climbed up the side of the hill in several places to find what his eye considered to be the best perspective. His mission was to capture the grandeur of the setting—the area that Black Elk Peak’s famous fire tower watches over.
